Mass-line Media Centre (MMC), a media focused non-profit organization engaged in the development sector since 1995, works for promotion of human rights and democratic values through professionalism in media particularly journalism. Its overall objective is to remain an advocate for freedom of opinion, expression and free flow of information in the media. Access of the rural poor to relevant and affordable information is expected to be the ultimate result of MMC’s work. At present, MMC is implementing projects with the objective that the respect for human rights of women and men, democratic participation of all citizens in the political process and good governance are promoted through a pluralistic, independent and professional media sector.

Raising Community Voice through Media for the Restoration of Human Rights and Good Governance Project

MMC is enduring with this project, which has been started from August 2007 with the support of development partner Caritas Switzerland. Mymensing, Tangail, Sherpur, Jamalpur, Netrokona, and Kishorgongo districts of greater Mymensing area have been included under this project heading.

From January 2012 MMC and their local implementing associative Caritas-Bangladesh is going to create a hopeful platform in favor of adivasi community by bringing new dimension of journalism with the focus of RTI and networking in existing and a new area together.

To endorse and establishment of human rights and social justice in media for adivasi community is the futurist theme of Caritas-Switzerland project (CSP). This will amplify the voices from the grasses to policy level through media to create a faculty for knowledge-based livelihood.

Project Goal:

Ensuring human rights of women, men and Adivasi communities through their participation in the democratic process and promoting good governance through the development of pluralistic, independent and professional media sector.

Immediate Objective:

  • Developing capacity of the media professionals of the local press houses on the ethics of journalism, standardization of news on gender sensitivity, techniques of report writing on right to information through capacity building training.
  • Implementing media regulatory policies, guide line and law in the local press houses through proper advocacy and networking.

Achievements of activities

According to the whole project action plan all the activities were performed in the last 4 years (August 2007-June 2011).

A total of 8 (5 basic and 3 advanced/follow-up) grassroots journalists skill development have been conducted. A total of 160 journalists participated in 8 training.

Four Basic Skill Development and Motivational Training for Local Correspondents of national and local newspaper (2 basic and 2 follow-up) also organized in this period. A total of 80 working journalists participated in basic and follow up training.

Photography training with 20 journalists held in this period.

29 Field based practical training with 145 participants organized in this period.

Monthly newspaper SHOBAR KOTHA is publishing maintaining regularity. This is an issue-based newspaper highlighting the rights of indigenous people of greater Mymensingh district. The newspaper enters into its 3rd year.

A total of 69 networking seminars include 54 union levels, 12 regional level and 3 national level networking seminars held in this period.

On going progress

In the on going days CSP is functioning to create an elaborate platform for working together with new theme lines of Caritas Switzerland. With regular publication of Monthly newspaper CSP is on the way to develop SHOBARKOTHA (facebook group:      This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
